Survival Strategies of Mangrove (Ceriops tagal (perr.) C. B. Rob) and the Inspired Corrosion Inhibitor

Corrosion is ubiquitous, inevitable, and very common in our daily lives; it has been one of the most significant challenges needs to be addressed for development modern society. Corrosion-resisting strategies found nature have promising many halophytes surviving marine tidal zones facing high salinity humidity. Among halophytes, mangroves developed a lot functions deal with such extreme conditions that could provide novel inspirations fabrication engineering materials, especially materials resisting corrosion. In this study, we first investigated two survival mangroves, namely, functional salt-secreting mangrove tannin composite. Salt-secreting realized by salt glands make excrete excessive avoid harmful effects. On other hand, tannins existing large quantities bark help survive some bacteria. Inspired tannins, corrosion inhibitor protect Q235 carbon steel acid 3.5 wt% NaCl solution. Furthermore, mangrove-inspired adsorbed at metal–solution interface, functioning as cathodic 60.51% anti-corrosion efficiency.
